When Chaos Pays a Visit

Happy Monday 🙂 

There’s something fitting about ending my time here with a reflection on chaos. Lately, I’ve been thinking about how even in our most joyful seasons, even when we are doing the work to build peace, chaos still seems to find a way to knock. Maybe that’s part of it. Maybe choosing joy, softness, and intention in a world that often pulls us the other way is its own kind of resistance.

Before I move over to Substack, I wanted to leave this here. Take from it what you need, leave what you don’t. Thank you for riding along with me during this journey, I appreciate you all. Thank you for seeing my art, for seeing me 🙂 

Chaos

As I sit, I think
how trying to build a life of peace
as taboo as they make it seem
can feel so hard to hold.

That no matter how much I am love,
if its not found within themselves,
chaos.

That no matter how much communication passes between us,
if you live only to respond
and not to truly listen and understand,
chaos.

That no matter how transparent I am,
if you still cannot meet yourself in the mirror,
chaos.

Chaos that moves through miscommunication,
falling on the ears of the deaf.

Chaos that moves through the ego,
as if none of us are carrying full plates,
as if none of us are fighting for our identities,
as if none of us wake each day
in a world that tries to wear us down.

And still,
we try to laugh,
to find joy,
to make room for love and art.

But wherever these things live,
chaos pays a visit.

I have been on a sabbatical from chaos,
yet somehow
it keeps finding me
in the most joyous seasons of my life.

I wonder if true joy seekers
have been cursed with chaos
because they dare to go against the grain
to become everything chaos could never be,
everything chaos secretly wishes it was.

Oh, how I wish chaos would rest.
How I wish chaos would loosen its grip
and let us enjoy our happiness.

Just once,
I wish chaos would let us have it all.
